07/18/2008    Wildwood Road at Reservoir Road to be Temporarily Closed

The City of Alcoa announced today a temporary closure of Wildwood Road between Luther Road and Old Reservoir Road due to waterline construction on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Traffic will be detoured to Patrick Avenue and Old Reservoir Road.

The City has contracted with WBS, Inc to install a booster pump station at the City’s Overlook Reservoir on Patrick Avenue and construct a 12” waterline from Wildwood Road to the site. This line will provide a connection between Alcoa and Maryville water systems allowing transfer of water between the systems in the event of an emergency. The pump station will serve in dual role to provide 3.5 MGD to supply Maryville’s’ emergency needs as well meeting the growth in the area.

The contractor has scheduled to begin work Monday, July 21, 2008 with underground investigations. The remaining work will take place along Reservoir Road which will remain open. However, due to presence of heavy equipment and delays required to move materials in and out of the work zone, motorists are asked to avoid the area and are encouraged to travel Patrick Avenue during this phase of construction.

The contractor will be given 120 days to complete the entire project, however, the schedule is subject to delays beyond their control. The project will be managed by the City of Alcoa Public Works & Engineering Department which will include compliance inspections, contract management, traffic planning and liaison with the affected property owners in addition to the general public.
