10/01/2010    Westbound Bessemer Street to be Closed

The City of Alcoa Public Works and Engineering Department announced today that beginning Monday, October 4, 2010 westbound Bessemer Street will be closed just west of K-Mart. Motorists wishing to travel westbound beyond K-Mart will be detoured onto Calderwood Street and Louisville Road to the U.S. 129 Bypass. McCammon Avenue will also remain open as an alternate route. Eastbound traffic on Bessemer Street from Middlesettlements Road and the Bungalow area will be maintained.

This restriction will remain in effect until Rogers Group, the Tennessee Department of Transportation contractor for Phase II of the Middlesettlements Road Improvements, completes construction of the diverging diamond interchange at the Bessemer Street / Middlesettlements Road / U.S. 129 Bypass intersection. This construction is expected to be completed in mid-November.

Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during the closure.
