08/08/2008    City of Alcoa Water Plant Receives Section Award

The City of Alcoa Water Treatment Plant operations staff has received recognition from the Kentucky/Tennessee Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for outstanding plant operation. The recognition came at its annual Water Professionals Conference held in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 22nd. The City of Alcoa water plant was the only plant in Tennessee to receive this award in the greater than 10 million gallons per day category.

The Award of Excellence is given each year to five water treatment plant operation staffs across the Section’s territory, broken into three different plant size categories. Receiving this award is quite an honor considering there are approximately 498 public water systems in Kentucky and approximately 690 in Tennessee. Nominees are further graded through a written process and a site visit. The selection committee for KY/TN AWWA endeavors to recognize those plant operation staffs that have demonstrated exceptional performance in exceeding all Federal Drinking Water Standards and initiative to excel at the business of producing safe water for its customers.

AWWA is the authoritative resource for knowledge, information, and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of water in North America and beyond. AWWA is the largest organization of water professionals in the world. AWWA advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting the efforts of the full spectrum of the water community. Through our collective strength we become better stewards of water for the greatest good of the people and the environment.
