Blount County Library BoardDescription: A seven-member board appointed by the Blount County Commission, the City of Alcoa Board of Commissioners and the Maryville City Council. The Board shall employ a Library Director; determine the mission, goals, programs objectives of the Library; approve an annual budget; help secure adequate funds to carry out the Library?s programs; report regularly to the public and governing officials; and follow legal, professional and ethical practices when making decisions and carrying out responsibilities. According to the Bylaws, by May 1 of each year the Board shall recommend to the Blount County Commission , the City of Alcoa Board of Commissioners and the Maryville City Council persons for membership in accordance with the provisions as set forth in the TCA 10-3-103(b)(1)(A) and 10-5-102. Blount County Rescue SquadDescription: Governed by an eleven-member board of directors consisting of one person appointed from each of the following: the City of Maryville, the City of Alcoa, the Knoxville Metropolitan Airport Authority, Blount Memorial Hospital, the Blount County Mayor, and the Steel Workers Local Union 309. The captain and chief of the membership will automatically be members and three others selected by the membership of the squad. Parks & Recreation CommissionDescription: The Parks and Recreation Commission consists of seven memers; two each from the Cities of Alcoa and Maryville and Blount County and one member appointed by Recreation & Parks Commission. One of the two government appointees must be an elected official and one at large member. Ex-officio members are the two City Managers and the Blount County Judge. Authorized By: The Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks and Recreation Commission was formed in 1970 by an ordinance authorizing the establishment and participation by the City of Maryville, City of Alcoa, and Blount County to administer a Parks and Recreation system.
