Description: A five-member commission two of which shall be the City Manager and one member of the Board of Commissioners, with the other three members being citizens appointed by the Board of Commissioners. The terms of the City Manager and the one member of the Board of Commissioners shall be co-terminus with their respective terms as such. The terms of appointed members shall be for three years each, with the term of one member expiring each year. Three members shall constitute a quorum.

The Planning Commission reviews and approves site and concept plans for the development and/or re-development of commercial, office, industrial and planned sites, as well as all minor and major subdivision plats. The Planning Commission also makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners regarding amendments to the Comprehensive Plan and Maps, annexations, zoning assignments and re-designations, amendments to the Zoning and Land Use Control and Standards for Land Subdivision text, as well as any other recommendations which guide the City’s growth and development.

The purpose of this body of government is to guide and accomplish a coordinated and harmonious development of the City. Such coordinated and harmonious development will, when in accordance with existing and future needs, best promote the public health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity, and the general welfare of the City, as well as provide an efficiency and economy in the process of development.

Meetings: Third Thursday each month at 5:30 p.m.

Location: City of Alcoa Municipal Building – Commission Chambers

Terms: 3 Years

The term of office filled by the City Manager and the Member of the City Commission shall be co-terminous with their respective terms as such.
